from Turkish bozuk saz, a variety of bağlama (long-necked fretted lute) that is the bouzouki's Turkish counterpart, from bozuk düzen, a particular re-entrant tuning that was commonly used on the bozuk saz, from bozuk, meaning "broken" or "modified" + düzen, meaning "tuning"
