correcting an error

[edit]

The entry read, "Epic and Ionic form of ζάω (záō, “to live”)." This was wrong. ζώω is not a dialectical form or specific to the epic language, it's simply the uncontracted form of the verb. The form ζάω is a made-up grammarian's form. I fixed the mistake but my edit was reverted. I'll redo the edit and add a source.--Penflange (talk) 18:09, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Penflange Start a discussion about this at WT:Etymology scriptorium, where this is likely to get seen. Simply giving "Beekes, Etymological dictionary of Greek" as a reference isn't really sufficient, either - you need to be more specific, and you should only reference it if Beekes actually says that it's an artificial form. Also, as a more general point, we don't use terminology like "fictitious" in entries: if you think ζάω (záō) doesn't actually exist, then it should be listed at WT:RFVN. Your behavior is extremely hostile, confrontational, and nonconstructive. I will revert again and give more detail in the reference. Please stop reverting for no discernible reason, assume good faith, and, if you doubt that the reference demonstrates the point, look it up rather than reverting without knowing anything about it yourself.--2607:FB90:FD1A:C649:4FA2:FA1:D4D4:59DD 01:32, 30 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Where have I been confrontational or assumed bad faith? The burden of proof is on you here, and you’ve failed to address any of the issues I raised. Theknightwho (talk) 09:28, 30 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
