Which variety of Greek?

[edit]

The greek used in the new testament is koine greek, not attic greek. While the two are not very different, there are differences. So using the new testament as a source for ancient greek is troublesome at best.

And I also wonder whether anciant greek should be plased over modern greek simply on alphabetical principle, where the two still are written alike.

I think wiktionary's definition of "Ancient Greek" is any Greek before the development of the modern writing language[s]. We don't seem to have Mediaeval Greek. But the Koine is generally included in Ancient Greek anyway, as far as I know. -- And as to the second thing: we always follow strictly the alphabetical order, with the exception of "(modern) English", which is always first. Also a name in Greek?

Is this word also used as a female given name in Greek? 98.123.38.211 00:03, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, guest. It is Ζωή (Zoḯ), w:Zoe (name) used as a given name since mediaeval times. I am not sure for earlier times. ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 08:39, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sarri.greek and @Nikos1nikos1, see also from Septuagint:
"καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἀδὰμ τὸ ὄνομα τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ Ζωή, ὅτι αὕτη μήτηρ πάντων τῶν ζώντων" .. so this is from 3rd century BC. FocalPoint (talk) 19:58, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
