I found this note of 2017 on etymology concerning french calque: “Is this certain? Since αξιο- means "worthy", it seems more like a calque of English "noteworthy"”.
Babiniotis is the source = french calque, 1808. Indeed, in the 1800s, the lingua franca was french. I suppose, notable was translated: άξιος (worth) ίνα (to) σημειωθή (be mentioned, Katharevousa form)= αξιο-σημείωτος (from verbal adj. σημειωτός).
