[edit]Why 1sg is łinishzhin and not łinish(sh)in? The stem starts with a fricative sound and there's zero classifier. Maybe because of virtual l classifier which appears in jilzhin, daalzhin, dajilzhin? — Łoo' Hashkéhé (talk) 12:13, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
- Young & Morgan's The Navajo Language, A Grammar and Colloquial Dictionary (1980 edition), lists łinishzhin on page 518. The entry confirms that there is no classifier, and that the prefix is łini-, stem -zhin. In the prefix łini-, the initial łi- is identified as the -ł- classifier. I don't think it has anything to do with a virtual l classifier, since all of the classifiers can be used with forms of the -ZHĮ́Į́ʼ stem in various moods. That is all of the hard facts that I have for this, but, subjectively speaking, pronouncing łinishin just sounds wrong to me. —Stephen (Talk) 14:48, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
