German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Middle Low German tûte, tǖte (“horn, conical paper bag”). Cognate with English tote (“bag”), Dutch tuit (“spout”). Further origin unknown, though has been suggested to be part of a sound-symbolic family of words including Zitze (“teat”).
