[edit]Inherited from Middle English Swynesheved, Swynesheed, from Old English *Swīneshēafod, from swīnes (“pig's”) + hēafod (“head”); compare Old Italian Suinsivede.
The euphemistic forms Swanshead and Swayneshead were known in Early Modern English.
