[edit]sumar (“summer”) + liði (“slider, passer, walker”). Apart from its use as a name, sumarliði means “sailor”, since fleets were gathered in summer. Compare Vetrliði (“Winter-passer”) and Old English sumorlida (“summer fleet”).
