Luxembourgish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German Spanje, from Latin Spania, from Hispania. Due to the Spanish presence in the Low Countries (16th to 18th centuries), the word was part of the general vocabulary and underwent the native phonological developments (whereas most Luxembourgish country names are borrowed from German or less often French).
