[edit]Inherited from Proto-Germanic *Sigimēraz, equivalent to siġe (“victory”) + mǣre (“famous, renowned, illustrious”). Cognate with Proto-Norse ᛋᛁᚷᛁᛗᛡᚱᛡᛉ (sigimᴀrᴀʀ /Sigimāraʀ/) (whence Old Norse Sigmarr).
