Etymology

From Ancient Greek σικαλίς (sikalís), a variant of συκαλίς (sukalís): a small, black-headed bird, mentioned by Epicharmus, Aristotle, and other authors; not further identified, but perhaps a sort of warbler. From συκῆ (sukê, fig tree).
