- The suburb of London is named with Old English sċeald (“shallow”) + wella (“well, spring”).
- The Norfolk placename derives from Old English scēad (“boundary”) + wella (“well, spring”).
- The West Yorkshire placename probably derives from Old English sċeadu (“shade; shady place”) + wella (“well, spring”).
