  1. A hut set up in open land for people, especially agricultural workers, to seek shelter; a bothy, refuge.

Usage notes

  • In mountainous terrain, Schutzhütten may be cabins equipped to survive several days, e.g. in case of severe snowfall. Otherwise, they are usually more similar to mere bus shelters, intended for cover in a thunderstorm.
