Etymology 1

From Middle High German schrīnære. By surface analysis, Schräin (chest, trunk) +‎ -er. The expected form is Schrénger, which is attested dialectally. The form Schräiner has been readapted to the primary noun. Influence by cognate German Schreiner is possible.
