- (Noord-Brabant): First attested as die hoge schaut in 1382. Potentially derived from dialectal schave (“pasture, hayfield”), itself derived from Medieval Latin escavatum (“cavity”).
- (Flevoland): Derived from schouw (“type of ship”).
