[edit]From Middle High German schinbein, schinebein, from Old High German skinabein, from Proto-West Germanic *skinubain, from Proto-Germanic *skinōbainą. Equivalent to Schiene + Bein. Compare Hunsrik Schienbeen, Dutch scheenbeen, English shinbone, Danish skinneben, Swedish skenben.
