[edit]Borrowed from Albanian Sarandë, from Greek Άγιοι Σαράντα (Ágioi Saránta, “forty saints”), which refers to the ruined Forty Saints Monastery (named after the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste) which overlooked the town.
