Phonemicity
[edit]@DerRudymeister As far as I can tell, the glide /j/ or /i̯/ in this sequence is not phonemic. It's not possible to remove the glide in Dutch, there is no possible distinction between /eːjə/ and /eːə/. Given that the plural ending is /ə(n)/, the plural of /ʋeː/ must be /ˈʋeːə(n)/, there is no such thing as a /jə(n)/ ending. So I think the glide should be removed. —Rua (mew) 15:24, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Rua: Thanks for the message. I think you are right about that, I will remove it. Normally Dutch doesn't allow clusters of a vowel + schwa, a semivowel is inserted in between as a hiatus filler in all other cases. It's odd that it's an exception for the eː. --DerRudymeister (talk) 08:37, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- @DerRudymeister: I don't think this is an exception. It's more that the insertion of the glide is automatic, an allophonic variation rather than a phonemic distinction. It seems to be allophonic in the other cases of hiatus too. —Rua (mew) 09:04, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
