[edit]Etymology
[edit]The first element was first attested as Regino and Reginum in the 3rd and 4th century. A Castra Regina was mentioned around 400. The Latin term is derived from Regana, the name of the river Regen which empties into the Danube at Regensburg. The second element corresponds to Burg. The New Latin form Reginopolis was created by Renaissance Humanists.
