[edit]From French Rédemptoriste, from Italian Redentorista, from redentore (“redeemer, savior”) (notably the Messiah, Christ; from Latin redēmptor, from redēmptus, perfect passive participle of redimō (“redeem, buy back”), itself from re- (“back; again”) + emō (“buy; gain, take, procure”)) + -ista (“-ist”).
