This reconstruction seems wonky...the English forms may be borrowed from Dutch, which leaves only Middle Dutch glaren and Middle Low German glāren, which isn't enough to substantiate this reconstruction. Leasnam (talk) 04:12, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
- Perhaps the words meaning "to gleam, shine" come from Proto-West Germanic *glaʀōn, and are more closely related to *glas than to Proto-Germanic *glēsijaną. The GML glarren (“to resinate”), Saterland Frisian glärje, gläärje (“to grease”), Middle High German glarren (“to stare”) are still posing difficulties with deriving from a long root vowel.
