Does anyone have any explanation why we don't have *otъrokъ? For example, the adjective Proto-Slavic *otъročьnъ (“excused”) (from Proto-Slavic *otъreťi (“to refute”)) is attested with -ъ-, so there are no phonetic reasons to expect consistently *otrokъ (without -ъ- between *ot- and *rokъ). Could it be that *otrokъ is from *o- + *-trokъ (no idea what the second element *trokъ may be, though)? Bezimenen (talk) 09:37, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
- It's likely that the original form of the preposition was actually *ot, and that this noun reflects that original form. —Rua (mew) 09:55, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
@Useigor: {{R:sla:ESSJa|*otъrokъ I|126|38}} doesn't work, even though the entry does exist. Any idea why this page stops at the 27th volume? Canonicalization (talk) 11:00, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Canonicalization Judging by http://essja.narod.ru/mix/all_volumes.htm, the site was not updated after 2007 year. And perhaps volumes 28...31 were not available online at the time. Now
