the vowels

why do we say the vowels don't match? ē...i being borrowed as e...ĭ makes perfect sense to me. The Slavic vowels are shorter because the inventories of the two languages are different. —Soap— 07:31, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

But, as per w:Gothic_language#Alphabet_and_transliteration, there was no short /e/ in Gothic, so it seems to me that even if we reconstruct it as long, it may have been acoustically neutral, and would be heard by speakers of proto-Slavic as a short vowel, or at least as "just an /e/", not a specifically long /ē/. Do we have amply attested other loans from Gothic specifically into proto-Slavic where Gothic ē is borrowed as proto-Slavic ě ? Thanks, —Soap— 10:06, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
