Reconstruction talk:Proto-Slavic/mana

In South Slavic, there are two sorts of words мана, which could be confused with *mana. One is Serbo-Croatian мана, Macedonian маана (maana), Bulgarian мана (mana), meaning deficit, flaw, shortcoming. These are contractions of Ottoman Turkish بهانه (bahâne, “excuse”) > Turkish mahana, ultimately of Persian origin. The other word is Bulgarian мана̀ (manà, “plant disease, which affects the leaves”) [for reference: мана̀² @ BER vol 3, page 636]. The later is of disputed origin, but most likely does not descend from proto-Slavic. I'm mentioning them, because initially one could presume that their origin is from proto-Slavic (the Serbo-Croatian entry was even given as a descendant of *mana), which however is not the case.
