Reconstruction talk:Proto-Slavic/koldędzь

(Notifying Hergilei, Tweenk, Shumkichi, Wrzodek): Hello. Does this term (mentioned in Proto-Slavic *koldędzь) really exist? I'm not finding much on Google. Per utramque cavernam 13:09, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

• (Notifying Per utramque cavernam): To be honest, I've never heard of it before. But, according to [this] page, this word (borrowed from the Proto-Germanic language) used to mean "a well", but was replaced by our modern "studnia". But, except for this sole page, there's surprisingly nothing about the word in the whole Internet. I wouldn't go as far as to say that the source is unreliable though, since there remain similar words derived from the same root in some contemporary Slavic languages, so I assume there had to exist such a word in Polish too, but I can't really tell if it really was in the form "kłodziądz" (at first glance, it seems fine though). Maybe we should consider removing the entry from this page: Proto-Slavic *koldędzь, since we can't be 100% sure whether it's correct or not? Shumkichi (talk) 17:18, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
  • @Shumkichi: Sorry for the belated answer; I did not get your ping. If it's never been used or we have no proof that it has been, it should be removed; we go by attestation here. If it's a reconstruction we could add an asterisk in front of it, but for it to be a useful reconstruction there should be terms that are derived from it (compounds, adjectives, anything); are there any?
