*borsky?

[edit]

Why *borsky, not *brosky? Neither the Latin source nor any of the cited Slavic forms show any traces of metathesis. There is always the sequence -r-o-, never counterwise.

Probably because I could not wrap my head around the story common in literature that the forms of the word for peach were confused with *brosky. But Romance brasca would have become *brosky and you are right, the South Slavic would be bra- if from *borsky. Fay Freak (talk) 12:32, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
