@Metaknowledge @Fay Freak new PWS moving and ref need. (Pinging both of u in case) Malku H₂n̥rés (talk) 22:54, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what to do here. There is definitely a word of this root going back to PS, although I'm inclined to think it's the verb rather than the adjective. Apparently Nöldeke thinks the meaning "holy" is secondary, due to Abrahamic religious spread, although the meanings ascribed to the Akkadian seem quite similar. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:47, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Actually no Akkadian reflexe is present on this page so adding it is one thing to do. But why a verb, I think with the meaning of "(to be) holy" ? All the descendants are at least an adj meaning "holy", sometimes plus a noun meaning "saint", but none is a verb. Adj can be primary, they are not always drawn from verbs. I haven't added Akkadian because there seems to be a metathesis of the root consonants. The verb would more likely be "be pure, be sanctified" (esp. if Nöldeke is correct). But verbs are much more often primary, and the adjectival forms here do not agree at all in morphology (it seems the Arabic was arbitrarily chosen to be the pagetitle). @Fay Freak, what do you think? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 21:34, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
