Medial -y- seems incorrect

[edit]

The oldest attested form is Old Japanese /sabusi/, deriving from OJP (and later Classical) verb さぶ (sabu, broadly, “to grow wild, desolate, decrepit”, referring to both physical and emotional states).

If the Proto form were truly /*sanpuysi/, we would expect OJP /sabisi/, not /sabusi/.

What grounds are there for reconstructing that medial -y-? ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 19:49, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
