The etymology has been fixed a bit

It's impossible to derive this word from a zero-grade PIE *h₂dtós, since *H > 0 / #_C in PIt. The form of the -to- participle, as noted by de Vaan, would likely be *h₂dtós, but that can't be the origin of PIt *assos, and the original *a- must have been analogically added based on one of the verb forms that still retained the *a word-initially.
