Etymology
[edit]If the root were *weys- (“to flow”), it would require a lengthened grade *wōysom. It might also be possible to connect it with Sanskrit वास (vāsa, “perfume, fragrance”), if the hypothetical root *weHs- meant "to soak" or "to steep". But I can't find any information on the etymology of that word. Anglom (talk) 21:51, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
PIE
[edit]"*woseh₂" seems to be based only on Sanskrit (actually per the lack of Brugmann's Law I would expect *wosHeh₂ or *weseh₂). Germanic *wōsą seems to require earlier *wāsan < *wōsom? --Tropylium (talk) 20:10, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
