Etymology
[edit]Very likely the neuter accusative plural (cf. Ancient Greek πολλά (pollá)) of an adjective/superlative *uftaz, "last, latest", compare Ancient Greek ὕπατος (húpatos), and the development of Latin subinde from "last" to "immediately after" to "repeatedly, often". Less likely is that it represents a compound of *ub + *þō the neuter accusative plural demonstrative, cf. again with Latin subinde, sub + inde. Burgundaz (talk) 02:01, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
