Discussion about missing words and reconstruction of Proto-Germanic

Bavarian word with no source

[edit]

In Bavarian(east central bavarian) there is "wüspla" meaning "whistle", i couldn't find any source for that except that it is my mother tongue. In standard german there is wispeln and wispern, both meaning "whisper". Maybe someone with more experience could try to find something. 2A03:C100:F309:6A00:2C44:8AAD:D38:3D6F 14:58, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Might not help much, but I checked Johann Andreas Schmeller's Bayerisches Wörterbuch, vol. 2 (large PDF) and the page column numbered 1042 talks about wispeln/wispern. Not sure if it covers the specific form "wüspla". (I don't know German, and I find blackletter/Fraktur difficult.) 70.172.194.25 15:09, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
