First element *falhu-

[edit]

Discussion needs to be initiated on the first element in this word, *falhu-. Other wiktionary entries reveal the following:

1. "Fallow" meaning "uncultivated land" < PWGmc *falgu < PIE *polḱéh₂; the PGmc form would therefore be PGmc *falgō.

2. "Fallow" meaning "pale grey-yellow" < PGmc *falwaz.

3. PGmc *falhuz occurs in wiktionary, meaning "a tube" and is used in ON falr, "a socket at the back of a spearhead, into which the shaft is placed". It is based on felhaną, " to cover".

Of these PGmc *falhuz is the best match phonetically, but the semantics need some work. Any suggestions?
