Cultural context of *ermun(a)grunduz

[edit]

May I suggest the meaning should reflect the cultural context, with a meaning such as "the wide world"? Jörmungrund in Norse mythology is the foundation of the great ocean in which Midgard, the world of the humans, is located inside. In Beowulf, ofer eormengrund = "over the spacious earth".
