Is the Dutch word gedegen, now only an adjective meaning thorough, well versed or native as in native copper/gold a descendant of this? Jcwf 05:00, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

The Dutch etymological dictionary suggests that it is an older participle of gedijen. So it would be a descendant of the past participle of *þinhanan. This does make sense because when the -n- was lost in this word before -h-, it was moved into the first strong class by analogy (as seen in all daughters): þinh-þanh-þung > þīh-þaih-þig. It is the past participle *þiganaz formed in that process that would be the ancestor of gedegen. —CodeCat 10:02, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
