non and is 'belja'
[edit]Hello User:Rua, in your edit summary you claim that belja (is) and belja (non) are not descendants, I am wondering what makes that so. Thanks. AquitaneHungerForce (talk) 15:20, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- The Proto-Germanic term has a geminate -ll- and no -a- or -j-, implied by the Old Norse form. —Rua (mew) 19:36, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- As fine as that sounds it is really OR. However, the reason I added it in the first place was because the Etymology on belja (is) lists it as a descendant. And checking the source it seems that that was some amount of OR on the part of whoever wrote the etymology there, since the source only states that it is descended from *bʰel-. So I will pare down that etymology as well. Thank you for your time and expertise. AquitaneHungerForce (talk) 20:47, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you mean by OR? —Rua (mew) 08:46, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
- It stands for Original Research, which is prohibited on the encyclopedia. I'm saying I'd rather go with the sources here. But the sources did not actually support my change, which I would have noticed if I was more careful. Your explanation is nice though. AquitaneHungerForce (talk) 22:32, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
- I think you have Wiktionary confused with Wikipedia. This isn't an encyclopedia... —Rua (mew) 12:51, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
- I am aware. The abbreviation is from they encyclopedia, but I would still however prefer to go with sourced information rather than OR. AquitaneHungerForce (talk) 14:29, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
