@माधवपंडित Can you look over this? —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 18:44, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Aryamanarora: All ok with this reconstruction! In kannada it's almost impossible to get a native word for this as we just use ರಾಜ (rāja) instead. Perhaps *kōṭṭay is also a derivative of this noun, denoting the stronghold of the chief. Yet another possible derivative is the Proto-Dravidian word for "tribute" or "tax" seen in Tamil கப்பம் (kappam) & Kannada ಕಪ್ಪ (kappa) BUT there's a problem with the vowel which should have been a long ō & not schwa... ɱɑɗɦɑѵ (talk) 1:42, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
@माधवपंडित: Thanks! Funnily I had *kappam on my list at User:Aryamanarora/Proto-Dravidian. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 04:02, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Aryamanarora: Just saw that list. Dude, you need to do *ūr. It'll be the coolest PD lemma since *mīn & *nīr. Taking into account Sumerian Ur which also means city, I can't help but think if the Elamo-Dravidian thing is in fact for real. -- ɱɑɗɦɑѵ (talk) 04:53, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@माधवपंडित: Elamite is not related to Sumerian… although Elamite does use Sumerian cuneiform, as far as I know they're both languages isolates. I doubt *ūr is related to Sumerian Ur. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 12:45, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Aryamanarora: I sure have a lot to learn; I thought they were related to each other. Thanks for the entry! -- ɱɑɗɦɑѵ (talk) 10:59, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
