@Mellohi!, I vaguely remember Matasović believes in a PC sound law *e > *i/_C[+voice]V[+high], but I can't find it now.

The question of the comparative is vexing. Why do you think it's *φleis? GOI hypothesises *pléh₁-is > *φleis > *lēh > *lialïa. (I assume their *plē-is is a mistake because that wouldn't work.) I think likelier is *pléh₁- + neuter -ayos > *φlī-aos > *līās > lïa (cf. SnaG p. 124). The only problem is shortening of *ī to i in hiatus. —Caoimhin ceallach (talk) 13:01, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I thought the raising could be nothing but Old Irish raising before high vowels. We cannot posit this raising at the Proto-Celtic level if Helvetii is to be related anyhow. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 16:05, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
