- This might seem to be related to the Proto-Caddoan root that was the source of Pawnee kiwʌ́ku (“fox”), but efforts to connect Caddoan and Algonquian have so far been inconclusive. - -sche (discuss) 00:50, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

- The Wiyot term for the fox (specifically the grey fox) is â-lí-qliħl (TNAI orthography) / holikwlil (1993 orthography), a compound meaning 'it weeps around'. - -sche (discuss) 01:39, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
