Learned borrowing from Sanskrit उत्तरकुरु (uttarakuru).

1. Uttarakuru (a possibly mythological region to the north of India, mentioned in ancient Indian and classical texts)
2. any northern area (as Uttarakuru was generally considered to be the region vaguely to the north of India, a meaning expanded when the word was borrowed by the Tocharians)
