[edit]From *zbel (“lightning”) + *thurd (“to throw”), thus "the lightning thrower", "the lightning bearer"[1].[2] Compare with the Ancient Greek theonym Ζεύς κεραύνιος (Zeús keraúnios, “Zeus the thunderer”) and the Russian mythonym громовержец (gromoveržec, “thunder thrower”).
