[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ćiṣṭás, possibly from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čištás (compare Younger Avestan 𐬗𐬌𐬥𐬀𐬯𐬙𐬌 (cinasti)),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *kʷis-tós, from *kʷeys- (“to observe”).[2]
