Etymology

A semantic shift in Igala, where the term became "tree." In Yoruba, it strictly refers to chewing stick, signifying the possibility of a root that was in general defined as things relating to wood and stick. Compare with the form equivalent in semantic meaning, *í-gĩ and Proto-Yoruba *ì-tì
