Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Tibetic (compare Tibetan བརྒྱད (brgyad, “eight”)), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *b-r-gjat ~ b-g-rjat. The borrowing underwent simplification of the initial cluster.
