Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *lurtaz, from Proto-Indo-European *lerd- (crooked). Cognate with Greek λορδός (lordós, bent backward), Proto-Celtic *lordskākos (lame-footed),[1] and perhaps Old Norse lortr (excrement, feces).
