[edit]Alternation of *-þ- ~ *-þþ- suggests Proto-Germanic *klīþō ~ *kliþþaz,[1] possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gléy-t-ō ~ *gli-t-né-s, from *gley- (“to stick, glue”) + *-t- + *-ō.
