[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *proh₁- (“early; in the morning”), from *pro- (“forward”). Compare, in particular, Ancient Greek πρωῐ̈́ (prōĭ̈́, “early in the morning”), Sanskrit प्रातर् (prātár, “idem”).[1]
