Reconstruction:Proto-West Germanic/bast
Appearance
Proto-West Germanic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain; suggested to be an alteration of Proto-Indo-European *bʰask- ~ *bʰasḱ- (“bundle, heap, load”), itself thought to be a substrate term adopted by multiple Indo-European branches (for which see Latin fascis (“bundle”) for more), but this is disputed.[1]
