Reconstruction:Proto-West Germanic/þunkōn
Appearance
Proto-West Germanic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Possibly from Proto-Germanic *þunkōną, zero-grade iterative of unattested *þinkaną (“to make wet”), from Proto-Indo-European *téng-e-ti (whence Latin tingō (“to wet, moisten”), Ancient Greek τέγγω (téngō, “to wet, moisten”)), from *teng- (“to make wet”) + *-eti,[1] or perhaps from unattested *þunk- (“wetness, moiture”) + *-ōn.
