Proto-Vietic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Schuessler (2007) compares this to Proto-Monic *gooʔ (to get, to possess), Old Chinese (OC *[ɡ]ˤ(r)o, “to be, to have (Shijing)”), Jingpho gu (to have), while Diffloth (1992) proposed Vietic and Aslian forms such as Jehai weʔ, Semnam wɔːʔ (for correspondence between Vietic *k vs. zero-initial in other Austroasiatic languages, see củi, cứt, cảy). Neither is particularly likely.

Verb

[edit]

*kɔːʔ

  1. to be, to have
